Manufacturing facilities often operate with multiple machines running simultaneously, creating a constant environment of industrial workplace noise. Equipment such as conveyors, stamping presses, forklifts, and automated production lines can generate continuous sound levels ranging from 75–85 dB(A) during normal operations. While this may be acceptable for short exposure periods, employees who must perform office tasks in these areas experience significant challenges. Tasks such as answering phone calls, reviewing reports, or coordinating projects become difficult in such noisy environments.

When sound levels exceed 85 dB(A) for extended periods, workplace regulations begin to apply. According to OSHA noise exposure standards, employers must implement hearing conservation programs when workers are exposed to excessive noise. Many Department of Safety teams within facilities are responsible for identifying high-noise zones and implementing solutions that reduce exposure risks. However, simply relocating staff away from operations is often impractical because supervisors and planners must remain close to production activity.
