MONITORING NOISE
Large facilities often require dedicated operator stations where personnel monitor equipment performance, check system readings, and respond to alarms. These monitoring stations are frequently located near mechanical systems such as pumps, fans, compressors, or automated production lines. In many cases, these machines produce continuous equipment operating sound levels between 75–90 dB(A). Working near this level of mechanical sound throughout the day can affect concentration and communication.
Operators responsible for monitoring equipment must remain attentive to alarms, warning indicators, and system changes. However, excessive mechanical equipment sound can mask audible alerts or make radio communication difficult to hear. This creates a risk that critical warnings may be missed or misunderstood.
