GYMNASIUM ECHO CONTROL

Gymnasiums and indoor sports facilities often have large open interiors with high ceilings and hard surfaces. Concrete floors, metal bleachers, and exposed walls cause sound waves to reflect throughout the building. During sporting events or school assemblies, these reflections combine with crowd activity to produce sound levels between 70–80 dB(A). This environment often results in excessive echo and poor speech intelligibility.

When announcements are made over loudspeakers, echoes can make it difficult for spectators and athletes to understand instructions. Coaches and referees may also struggle to communicate during games. Over time, excessive reverberation can create a chaotic acoustic environment that affects both participants and spectators.

Large sports facilities often require acoustic solutions that can cover wide wall surfaces without major construction changes. Permanent acoustic panels may be difficult to install at high elevations or across large areas. For this reason, many facility managers seek flexible sound barrier curtains that can reduce reverberation effectively.

CurtiSil® Sound Control Curtains provide an efficient gym acoustic curtain system designed to absorb sound reflections and reduce echo. These sound blocking curtains can be installed along gymnasium walls or suspended from overhead tracks to reduce sound reflections throughout the building.

In facilities where sound levels reach 80 dB(A) during events, installing CurtiSil® acoustic sound curtains can reduce perceived reverberation levels to approximately 60–65 dB(A). This improvement enhances speech clarity during announcements and creates a more comfortable environment for spectators and athletes.
