CONFERENCE ROOM NOISE

Speech intelligibility is a critical performance metric in conference rooms, boardrooms, and lecture halls. Elevated background noise levels reduce clarity and increase listener fatigue. One common contributor is duct breakout noise radiating from ceiling-mounted air distribution systems.

During meetings or large gatherings, ventilation systems often increase airflow to accommodate occupancy levels. This increase in airflow velocity generates turbulence within ducts, exciting the metal surfaces and causing radiated airborne noise. Even small increases in background sound can significantly reduce the Speech Transmission Index (STI), directly impacting conference room acoustic performance.

While absorptive finishes address reverberation time (RT60), they do not prevent sound radiation from mechanical systems. Effective conference room noise control solutions require increasing duct surface mass to reduce airborne transmission at its source. Without this treatment, ducts remain a persistent contributor to ambient noise.

The DuctaSil® B10Lag™ Pipe & Duct Barrier System enhances commercial acoustic control performance by combining a high-mass barrier with vibration-damping insulation. This increases transmission loss and reduces structure-borne radiation. By implementing targeted mechanical noise mitigation systems, facilities can lower background levels, improve speech intelligibility, and create meeting environments that support clear and effective communication.
