EXPOSED DUCT AND PIPE NOISE

Fitness centers require elevated ventilation rates to maintain indoor air quality. However, increased airflow velocity generates turbulence that excites duct walls, producing commercial ventilation noise radiating into open workout areas.

Untreated systems frequently measure 65–75 dB(A) near exposed duct runs. Although gyms tolerate higher ambient levels, persistent mechanical hum competes with music systems and instructor communication. Over time, this reduces clarity and increases perceived loudness in the facility.

Open ceilings and hard surface finishes amplify the perceived effect of duct breakout. Standard insulation does not significantly reduce airborne mechanical noise transmission. Without added mass, ducts continue to radiate turbulence energy.

Improves gym acoustic performance by increasing transmission loss and reducing vibration amplitude.

The DuctaSil® B10LAG™ II Pipe & Duct Barrier System improves gym acoustic performance by increasing transmission loss and reducing vibration amplitude. Installations commonly achieve 10–15 dB reductions, bringing ambient levels into the 55–60 dB(A) range — appropriate for active environments while eliminating disruptive hum. Implementing commercial duct noise control systems enhances overall workout experience without restricting airflow performance.
