HEPA Filter Airflow Noise

Cleanrooms rely heavily on HEPA filtration systems and laminar airflow technology to maintain air purity and contamination control. These systems move large volumes of filtered air through ducts and ceiling-mounted filtration modules to maintain ISO cleanroom classifications. As air passes through filter housings and diffusers, airflow turbulence generates mechanical noise that spreads throughout the facility. In many pharmaceutical and semiconductor cleanrooms, this airflow noise commonly reaches 70–80 dB during normal operating conditions.

Because ventilation systems are located directly within the ceiling grid, sound waves generated by airflow often reflect off traditional ceiling tiles and spread throughout the cleanroom environment. The reflective surfaces common in sterile environments amplify this noise and increase reverberation across the workspace. Workers performing precision manufacturing or laboratory research beneath these ventilation systems must communicate clearly while monitoring equipment and performing tasks. However, the constant airflow noise can reduce speech clarity and increase fatigue during long shifts.

Installing VibraCore® Acoustic Cleanroom Ceiling Tile Systems helps control this problem by introducing high-performance acoustic cleanroom ceiling tiles specifically designed for sterile environments. These sound absorbing cleanroom ceiling tiles capture sound energy from ventilation systems before it reflects throughout the room. Acting as cleanroom sound absorption ceiling tiles, they significantly reduce the reverberation created by airflow turbulence.

The VibraCore® Acoustic Cleanroom Ceiling Tile Systems functions as sterile environment acoustic ceiling tiles that maintain strict contamination control requirements while delivering excellent acoustic performance. Because these tiles are also engineered as washable acoustic ceiling tiles, they meet sanitation standards required in pharmaceutical, semiconductor, and biotechnology facilities. Their durable construction allows them to function as industrial acoustic ceiling tiles while maintaining cleanroom compliance.

After installation, many facilities see airflow noise levels reduced from 75–80 dB down to approximately 60–65 dB. This quieter acoustic environment improves communication between workers, reduces fatigue, and helps maintain a productive cleanroom workspace.
