Laminar Flow Fan Noise

Semiconductor fabrication facilities rely on laminar airflow systems to maintain extremely clean environments required for microchip production. These systems circulate filtered air through HEPA filter fan units mounted directly within the ceiling grid. The fans operate continuously to maintain proper air pressure and particle control throughout the facility. As these systems run, the motors and airflow turbulence produce consistent noise levels often reaching 70–80 dB across the fabrication floor.

Because these fan units are integrated directly into the ceiling structure, the sound they produce spreads easily throughout the cleanroom environment. High ceilings and reflective surfaces common in semiconductor facilities allow sound waves to travel freely across the entire production floor. This reflection amplifies the perceived loudness of the airflow system and contributes to overall background noise levels. Engineers and technicians working beneath these systems often hear a constant humming sound throughout the day.

This noise can make it difficult for workers to communicate clearly while monitoring semiconductor manufacturing equipment. Wafer fabrication processes require close attention and precise coordination between operators. Excessive background noise can interfere with communication, reduce concentration, and increase fatigue during long production shifts. Many facilities therefore search for cleanroom acoustic ceiling tiles to help control fan noise.

Installing VibraCore® Acoustic Cleanroom Ceiling Tile Systems provides an effective solution for managing airflow-related sound. These sound absorbing cleanroom ceiling tiles capture sound waves generated by laminar airflow fan units before they reflect across the facility. Acting as cleanroom sound absorption ceiling tiles, they significantly reduce reverberation caused by ventilation systems.

Because VibraCore® Acoustic Cleanroom Ceiling Tile Systems are engineered as semiconductor cleanroom acoustic ceiling tiles, they improve cleanroom reverberation control ceiling tiles performance while maintaining strict contamination control requirements. Their hygienic construction allows them to function as ISO cleanroom acoustic ceiling tiles that meet regulatory standards for semiconductor manufacturing. After installation, semiconductor fabs often reduce fan noise from 75–80 dB to approximately 60–65 dB, improving acoustic comfort and communication across the production floor.
