Mechanical Plenum Equipment Noise

Many modern cleanrooms contain mechanical equipment located above the suspended ceiling plenum. Equipment such as pumps, fan units, air handling systems, and electrical infrastructure often generate continuous mechanical noise that travels through the ceiling structure. In semiconductor fabs and pharmaceutical facilities, plenum noise can raise background sound levels to 70–80 dB inside the controlled workspace. Because standard ceiling materials are designed primarily for contamination control rather than acoustics, they allow noise from above the ceiling to pass directly into the cleanroom.

This creates a persistent operational challenge for technicians and engineers working below the ceiling grid. Workers monitoring production lines must communicate clearly while hearing alarms, system alerts, and instructions from other staff members. When sound from mechanical equipment radiates through the ceiling panels, conversations can become difficult to hear. This is why many facilities look for cleanroom noise reduction ceiling tiles and acoustic treatment for cleanroom ceilings.

Installing VibraCore® Acoustic Cleanroom Ceiling Tile Systems provides a powerful solution to this issue. These acoustic cleanroom ceiling tiles act as sound absorbing cleanroom ceiling tiles that prevent plenum noise from entering the controlled environment. Their advanced construction allows them to function as industrial acoustic ceiling tiles designed specifically for cleanroom applications.

Because VibraCore® Acoustic Cleanroom Ceiling Tile Systems are engineered as cleanroom acoustic ceiling systems, they deliver effective noise reduction ceiling tile systems performance while maintaining strict contamination control standards. The tiles absorb sound energy before it enters the room and reduce the transmission of mechanical noise from above.

After installing VibraCore® Acoustic Cleanroom Ceiling Tile Systems, many facilities reduce sound levels from 75–80 dB to approximately 60–65 dB, creating a healthier and quieter environment for daily operations.
