Active Learning Space Reverberation

Classrooms are active learning environments where students engage in discussions, group projects, and classroom instruction throughout the day. These activities commonly produce sound levels between 65–75 dB(A), especially in larger classrooms with many students. Without sound absorption, these sounds reflect from hard surfaces and spread across the room.

Ceilings play a major role in classroom acoustics. When students speak or move chairs, sound waves travel upward and bounce off the ceiling before returning to the room. These reflections overlap with direct speech from the teacher and reduce speech clarity for students sitting farther away.

Poor classroom acoustics can affect learning outcomes. Teachers may need to raise their voices repeatedly to be heard over reverberation, which can lead to vocal strain over time. Students may struggle to clearly hear instructions or lectures when sound reflections blur speech signals.

Installing VibraCore® Acoustic Ceiling Cloud Systems helps control these reflections by reducing echo, controlling reverberation, and absorbing sound energy from the ceiling area in large, open environments. These educational acoustic ceiling clouds capture sound waves before they spread throughout the classroom, improving speech intelligibility and reducing background noise.

With these ceiling-mounted acoustic cloud panels, classroom noise levels can often be reduced from 70–75 dB(A) to approximately 50–55 dB(A). This improvement creates a more effective learning environment where teachers and students can communicate clearly.
