Distillation Deck Noise

Distillation column decks concentrate multiple noise sources within confined vertical spaces. Pumps, vapor release valves, reboilers, and auxiliary components frequently operate above 90 dBA, generating layered acoustic profiles that radiate both horizontally and vertically. Because column decks are supported by steel platforms and catwalks, these structures amplify reflection and redistribute sound energy upward.

This vertical propagation significantly complicates energy facility noise control planning. Workers positioned on upper platforms often experience louder perceived noise than personnel at ground level due to reflection and constructive interference.
