HIGH-PERFORMANCE ACOUSTIC ENCLOSURES FOR CNC & COMPOSITE- FABRICATION MACHINERY
Boeing’s Orlando manufacturing facility specializes in
advanced aerospace components requiring precise
fabrication. The facility includes multiple CNC machines and
composite-material cutting equipment operating
simultaneously, creating significant noise levels.
CHALLENGE
Noise from the CNC machines reached 84–92 dB, causing
distractions for engineers and technicians, interfering with
verbal communication, and potentially affecting the accuracy
of sensitive fabrication tasks. Standard measures like acoustic
blankets on walls were insufficient to contain the
concentrated noise from machinery clusters.
PROJECT OVERVIEW:
To address this, we designed a custom indoor acoustic enclosure system around the CNC and composite fabrication area. The goal was to significantly reduce noise, protect worker hearing, improve communication, and maintain operational efficiency—all without compromising airflow or maintenance access. The system was modular to allow adjustments for future changes in equipment
layout and operational needs.
KEY FEATURES INSTALLED
To achieve Boeing’s acoustic goals, we implemented a combination of high-performance sound-absorbing and sound-blocking materials engineered specifically for industrial indoor
environments. These features were selected for durability,
modularity, and their ability to control both mid- and low-frequency machinery noise.
- AB12 blankets – Multi-layered acoustic blankets optimized for mid- to high-frequency absorption.
- AB220 blankets – High-density composite blankets providing additional mass and sound transmission loss.
- Modular Steel Frame – Rugged all-welded structure for reconfiguration and long-term durability.
- Access and Ventilation Systems – Acoustic louvers and removable blankets for airflow and maintenance.
RESULTS
After installation, Boeing experienced significant improvements
across worker comfort, efficiency, and acoustic compliance. The
enclosure system delivered measurable noise reduction and
improved working conditions throughout the fabrication area.
