Royal Caribbean International’s corporate headquarters
includes multi-level executive offices, collaborative
departments, and high-traffic conference areas. As employee density increased, airborne speech, footstep impact noise, and mechanical sounds began transferring between floors through shared ceiling plenums.To improve confidentiality and workplace comfort without
altering architectural acoustic ceiling finishes, Royal Caribbean
partnered with All Noise Control to install the MassiCore® ANC-CB22 Acoustic Ceiling Barrier System — a high-performance acoustic ceiling barrier engineered to block inter-floor and inter-room sound transfer as part of a comprehensive acoustic ceiling design solution.
CHALLENGE
Standard drop ceiling systems provided insufficient
transmission loss, allowing conversations and footstep impact noise to pass through ceiling plenums. Executive offices required enhanced confidentiality, while conference rooms experienced elevated background noise levels.The building required ceiling sound barrier systems capable of
adding mass within the plenum to increase transmission loss while preserving access to lighting and HVAC systems. Royal Caribbean needed commercial acoustic ceiling solutions that would function as a true acoustic ceiling barrier system without impacting visible architectural acoustic ceiling finishes.
SOLUTION
All Noise Control installed MassiCore® ANC-CB22 Acoustic Ceiling Barrier above the suspended grid system across executive suites, conference rooms, and administrative work areas. Each panel features a composite construction of 1” fiberglass / 1 lb PSF mass loaded vinyl / 1” fiberglass, delivering a total nominal thickness of 2.0 inches and an STC rating of 27. The integrated mass-loaded vinyl core increases ceiling cavity
density, transforming the assembly into a high-performance acoustic ceiling barrier designed to block airborne sound transmission between floors and adjacent spaces. Unlike traditional absorption-based treatments, this acoustic ceiling barrier system adds critical mass within the plenum to strengthen overall ceiling separation performance.
Panels were die-cut to fit standard 2’ x 2’ and 2’ x 4’ grid systems and installed directly above existing tiles, creating discreet ceiling sound barrier systems without impacting visible architectural acoustic ceiling finishes. The system meets ASTM E-90 and ASTM E-413 standards for sound transmission and ASTM C-423 for
acoustic performance, while carrying a Class A flammability rating to meet commercial building codes.
