Overwiew

Duke Energy operates large-scale power generation facilities
that rely on turbines, compressors, generator rooms, and
mechanical pump systems to deliver consistent electrical

output. These environments operate continuously under high-
load conditions, generating elevated industrial noise levels

across turbine halls and mechanical zones.

To improve acoustic control while maintaining uninterrupted
power generation, Duke Energy partnered with All Noise
Control to implement engineered Soundproof Metal
Enclosures designed specifically for utility-scale mechanical
systems.

CHALLENGE

Power plant environments present complex acoustic
challenges. High-output turbines and compressors produce
continuous airborne and structure-borne sound, especially
within generator rooms and mechanical pump areas. The open
industrial layout of turbine halls can allow noise to travel across
large sections of the facility, amplifying overall exposure levels.
The solution needed to reduce generator and compressor
noise at the source without restricting ventilation, thermal
performance, or maintenance access. Additionally, the
enclosure system had to withstand demanding industrial
conditions, support OSHA workplace noise compliance
initiatives, and be installed without disrupting critical power
generation operations.

SOLUTION

All Noise Control engineered and installed custom Soundproof
Metal Enclosures constructed from stainless steel, galvanized
steel, and aluminum to ensure durability, corrosion resistance,
and long-term performance within power plant environments.
This dual-performance design effectively controlled generator
room noise, turbine emissions, and compressor sound output.

Acoustic ventilation silencers were integrated to maintain
required airflow and cooling efficiency for heat-generating
mechanical systems. Gasket-sealed panel joints prevented
sound leakage, while heavy-duty framing and removable
access doors allowed maintenance teams full equipment
access without compromising acoustic integrity.

Installation was performed in coordinated phases to ensure
continuous plant operation and minimal disruption to Duke
Energy’s production schedule.

RESULTS

  • Reduced generator and turbine noise levels within
    mechanical zones
  • Improved communication clarity in compressor and pump
    room areas
  • Lower overall sound exposure across turbine hall
    environments
  • Supported OSHA workplace noise compliance efforts
  • Maintained ventilation and thermal efficiency for critical
    systems
