Overwiew
The Broward Center for the Performing Arts is one of South
Florida’s premier cultural venues, hosting Broadway tours,
orchestral concerts, ballet, and spoken-word performances.
While its expansive auditoriums and dramatic ceiling heights
create a stunning visual experience, these same architectural
features led to acoustic challenges. Hard reflective surfaces
and large open volumes caused excessive reverberation,
reducing clarity—particularly during dialogue-driven
performances.
To improve sound quality without compromising architectural
integrity, the Broward Center partnered with All Noise Control
to implement professional acoustic ceiling solutions. The
selected approach utilized VibraCore® Acoustic Ceiling
Banners, engineered to deliver large-scale reverberation
treatment in performance spaces where traditional ceiling
systems are not practical.
CHALLENGE
The venue’s high ceilings and open geometry allowed sound to
linger and overlap, especially in upper seating areas. Reflected
sound from music, applause, and spoken dialogue reduced
speech intelligibility and acoustic balance. The solution needed
to provide high ceiling reverberation control, remain visually
discreet, meet Class A fire-rated ceiling banners requirements,
and integrate safely around lighting and rigging systems
without permanent structural changes.
SOLUTION
All Noise Control installed a VibraCore® system of suspended
acoustic banners tailored to the Broward Center’s ceiling
heights and performance needs. These hanging acoustic
banners, constructed with durable vinyl-coated fabric and
fiberglass core banners, were installed as overhead sound
banners using adjustable cable suspension and grommeted
sound banners for precise placement.
In select areas, catenary banners followed ceiling contours to
maximize absorption. Custom length ceiling banners and
draped acoustic banners ensured optimal coverage while
maintaining a clean, unobtrusive appearance. With an NRC of
0.70, the system delivered consistent overhead sound
dampening and professional-grade acoustic control.
