Overwiew

Central Florida Research Park houses a diverse mix of
technology firms, engineering teams, research laboratories, and collaborative development offices. These innovation-driven environments require controlled acoustics to support concentration, technical discussions, and confidential project work. However, the building’s open layouts and suspended acoustic ceilings created overhead sound transmission challenges between departments and floors. To strengthen overhead sound blocking and improve overall acoustic performance without altering existing ceiling finishes,
Central Florida Research Park partnered with All Noise Control to deploy the MassiCore® ANC-CB22 Acoustic Ceiling Barrier as part of an integrated acoustic ceiling strategy.

CHALLENGE

The research park experienced airborne speech transmission between offices and laboratories due to lightweight ceiling tile systems with limited mass. Conversations in collaborative zones were audible in adjacent departments, affecting confidentiality and productivity. Also, mechanical equipment noise and footstep impact sounds from upper levels transferred through suspended acoustic ceilings, contributing to distraction during technical meetings and research tasks.
The facility required ceiling sound barrier systems that could improve transmission loss performance without structural modification.

SOLUTION

To resolve overhead sound transfer, All Noise Control installed MassiCore® ANC-CB22 Ceiling Barrier above the existing suspended ceiling grid throughout offices, meeting rooms, and research spaces. Each barrier features a composite assembly of dual 1” fiberglass layers combined with a 1 lb PSF mass loaded vinyl core, forming a 2-inch thick, high-density barrier with an
STC rating of 27. Rather than relying solely on absorption, this ceiling barrier system is designed to block noise from transferring from office to office by adding critical mass within the ceiling plenum. The
increased density reduces airborne sound movement between adjacent spaces and strengthens overall ceiling assembly performance. Panels were precision-cut to standard 2’ x 2’ and 2’ x 4’ grid dimensions and placed directly above existing tiles, creating a concealed sound-blocking layer without altering the visible ceiling. The system meets ASTM E-90 and ASTM E-413 sound
transmission standards, ASTM C-423 acoustic performance criteria, and carries a Class A fire rating, ensuring compliance with commercial building requirements.

RESULTS

  • Reduced airborne sound transmission between research departments
  • Improved clarity during technical meetings and
    presentations
  • Lowered impact and mechanical noise transfer between floors
  • Code-compliant, fire-rated acoustic ceiling barrier system
  • Enhanced productivity in innovation-focused environments
