Overwiew
Google’s open-plan workspaces faced challenges with echo, reverberation, and high ambient noise, which affected team collaboration and speech intelligibility. All Noise Control suspended acoustic ceiling clouds were installed to provide overhead sound control and ambient noise reduction, creating a more productive and comfortable workspace. The dual-sided absorption design also ensured reverberation control without
compromising the office’s modern aesthetic.
CHALLENGE
Google’s Bay Area offices are known for their open,
collaborative workspaces and innovation hubs. While the
design encourages teamwork, the high ceilings and expansive open areas created significant reverberation, echo, and background noise. Employees reported that large team meetings and brainstorming sessions were sometimes difficult due to poor speech intelligibility. Traditional wall-mounted acoustic panels provided limited relief, especially in areas with minimal wall space. Google needed a solution that could control mid- and high-frequency noise without compromising the modern aesthetic.
SOLUTION
All Noise Control implemented a combination of suspended soundproof ceiling clouds and floating acoustic ceiling systems across key collaborative zones. Panels were strategically placed above high-activity areas and configured with T-grid suspension systems for larger coverage. The dual-sided absorption design ensured reverberation control and ambient
noise reduction, while the decorative fabric wraps
complemented Google’s tech-forward interior design.
