Overwiew
Northrop Grumman operates advanced aerospace and
defense facilities in Florida that include precision
manufacturing areas, testing environments, mechanical
rooms, and equipment enclosures. These operations rely on
generators, HVAC systems, and specialized machinery that
generate persistent airborne noise. Controlling sound
transmission was essential to protect sensitive workspaces,
maintain operational visibility, and comply with strict internal
acoustic and safety standards.
Northrop Grumman required a flexible, high-performance
soundproofing solution that could be suspended, integrated
into enclosures, and reconfigured as needed—without
compromising durability or acoustic performance.

CHALLENGE
Continuous noise from generators, mechanical systems, and
test equipment transferred into adjacent areas, impacting
focus and operational efficiency. The facility required a noise
blocking material capable of supporting curtain-style and
enclosure-based installations while meeting fire and safety
requirements. Traditional rigid systems limited flexibility and
visibility, while standard barriers lacked the strength needed
for suspended use.

Â
All Noise Control installed the MassiCore® ANC-VB60R
Reinforced Mass Loaded Vinyl Sound Barrier to address
Northrop Grumman’s industrial noise challenges. The mass
loaded vinyl sound barrier, available in 1 lb MLV and 2 lb MLV
options, these provided a durable limp mass barrier with
reinforced construction designed for suspended and enclosure
applications.
All Noise Control fabricated and installed curtain-style
soundproofing barriers using MassiCore® ANC-VB60R,
complete with grommets and overlapping hook-and-loop
seams. Acting as MLV acoustic barriers and industrial sound
barriers, the reinforced vinyl reduced airborne noise and
limited sound transmission between mechanical rooms and
sensitive work areas. With STC ratings of 27 (1 lb) and 32 (2 lb)
and fire performance compliant with MIL-STD 6411 and MVSS
302, the solution delivered safe, long-term noise control.
