Overwiew
Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater, Florida, is a premier performing
arts venue hosting concerts, theater productions, orchestral
performances, and community events. While its expansive
auditorium and high ceilings create a visually stunning
environment, these same features contributed to acoustic
challenges. Hard reflective surfaces and large open volumes
caused excessive reverberation, reducing speech intelligibility
and overall sound clarity for both performers and audiences.
To address these issues without compromising the hall’s
architectural design, Ruth Eckerd Hall partnered with All Noise
Control to implement acoustic ceiling banners, a professional
solution engineered for large-scale reverberation treatment in
spaces where traditional ceiling panels are not feasible.

CHALLENGE
The hall’s high ceilings and open floorplan allowed sound to
linger and overlap, particularly in upper seating areas, making
dialogue, musical performances, and applause less clear.
Reflected sound from hard surfaces reduced speech
intelligibility and overall acoustic balance, which impacted
both audience experience and performer confidence. The
solution had to deliver effective high ceiling reverberation
control, meet Class A fire-rated ceiling banner requirements,
and integrate safely around lighting, rigging, and other ceiling
infrastructure—all while remaining visually discreet to preserve
the hall’s aesthetic.
SOLUTION
Â
All Noise Control enhanced Ruth Eckerd Hall’s acoustics with a
VibraCore® custom system of acoustic banners. Hanging
banners made from vinyl-coated fiberglass with a lightweight
core provided superior sound absorption, while overhead
banners with adjustable cable suspension and grommeted
hardware allowed precise placement to address problem
areas.
In areas with complex ceiling geometry, catenary banners
followed the contours for maximum coverage, and custom-
length draped banners ensured unobtrusive, seamless sound
control. The system achieved an NRC of 0.70, delivering
consistent overhead sound dampening and professional-grade
acoustic clarity throughout the auditorium.
