International Paper operates a large processing facility where
multiple outdoor vacuum pumps support production. Their
combined noise output exceeded local municipal noise limits.
CHALLENGE
- Tonal mid-frequency noise from pump operations
- Requirement to meet local noise regulations
- Outdoor equipment exposed to rain and UV
- Need for a scalable system as more pumps may be added
- Must preserve airflow for pump cooling
SOLUTION
For this application, we installed a modular acoustical blanket
enclosure utilizing ANC-AB110EXT-R Sound Curtains, a weather-
resistant model ideal for general outdoor noise reduction where
tonal noise is the primary concern.
Why EXT-R was selected:
- Durable, all-weather exterior facing
- Effective for mid-frequency tonal noise
- Cost-efficient for large outdoor equipment arrays
- Modular configuration allows expansion as new pumps are
added
The design incorporated acoustical ventilation baffles, corrosion-
resistant hardware, and quick-access panels for maintenance.
RESULTS
- 12–15 dB noise reduction, bringing the facility into full
compliance - Pump cooling requirements maintained
- Passed municipal inspection with margin to spare
- Noise impact on nearby residential areas significantly improved
