Overwiew
Merck uses large outdoor chillers and compressors essential
to their climate-controlled production environment. These
units generated significant noise that affected nearby
walkways and adjacent office spaces.
CHALLENGE
- High noise levels during peak chiller load
- No option to relocate equipment
- Material durability required due to possible chemical
exposure - Maintaining constant access for frequent maintenance
cycles - Must meet corporate and local noise guidelines
SOLUTION
We developed a custom outdoor acoustical blanket enclosure
using ANC-AB110EXT-R2 Sound Curtains, which offer enhanced
acoustical performance suitable for chillers and compressors with
broad-frequency noise.
Why R2 was selected:
- Highest-level noise mitigation for both low and high frequencies
- Reinforced, chemically resistant exterior
- Long-term durability under UV, rain, and variable temperatures
- Pressure-rated installation able to withstand strong airflow from chiller exhaust
The enclosure was built with framed structural supports, access points aligned to service panels, and acoustically treated ventilation
paths.
RESULTS
- 14–20 dB noise reduction in outdoor work areas
- Noticeable improvement in employee comfort
- No disruption to chiller or compressor performance
- Fully compliant with internal and municipal noise standards
